Add canoeing skills to your child’s summer experience!
Activities:
Let us show your child the best way to spend summer days around Chattanooga with this unforgettable experience! Whitewater Canoeing Camp meets Monday-Friday of the selected camp week. Group size will be capped at 12 participants.
Over the course of the week’s progression, your child will receive paddling skills instruction beginning with flatwater canoeing strokes & maneuvers and building to whitewater canoeing strokes & maneuvers (up to Class II+), rafting concepts (on whitewater days, participants will rotate between a raft and tandem canoes), whitewater safety and self-rescue basics, and applicable Leave No Trace principles.
Activities take place at a variety of locations around Chattanooga, with transportation provided via 15-passenger van. Paddling gear (excluding footwear and clothing) will be provided.
We will intentionally be out exploring rain or shine, which will provide excellent learning opportunities. Severe weather may necessitate shore-based learning on certain days.
PREREQUISITES: Participants should have previous experience paddling in the stern of a tandem canoe on flatwater, as well as previous exposure to paddling in moving water (any craft). Capsizing is almost guaranteed as participants learn tandem whitewater canoeing skills, so participants should be prepared to swim in cold moving water! If you have questions whether this experience is appropriate for your child, just give us a call!
Cost:
Whitewater Canoeing Camp is $550 per child, with a multi-child discount available (first child $550, additional children within the same family $515 each). A deposit of $150 per child will be due at the time of registration and will be applied to tuition.
Daily Schedule:
Drop-off (9:00am) and pickup (4:00pm OR 6:00pm) will be at Restoration Southside Church (3146 Broad Street Chattanooga, TN 37408).
Our activity location for each day will be within 1.5 hours of Chattanooga. Activity for each day will be selected based on weather. We will take time for a mid-morning snack and lunch over the course of the day’s adventures.
